The Cookie Thief - Fresh Out of the Oven

After nearly a year of hard work Kirk's second all ages book "The Cookie Thief" has just come out of the oven(printer). Like his best smelling Dog Poop Initiative, this book has a fully illustrated metaphorical message that works as well in the board room as it does in the living room. The illustrations by artist Adam Koford are "way cool" and with him, Kirk was able to add lots of little surprises and extras that are sure to make the book something people will read again and again. This self published book is available for immediate purchase at MoreBetterBooks.com.

The Story ManA Fresh Story with an Old Recipe. There is a history behind this tasty tale.

I first heard a version of this story in 1992 while attending a "7 Habits" seminar by Stephen Covey's group. I have shared it many times over the years, finding it a wonderful, simple way to create meaningful dialogue about  ...Read more

Dough Boy

Meat with Your Cookie?

This is not just a sweet book, there is real meat and meaning here!

Both books help people move quickly beyond defensive behaviors and can create healthy dialogue around more positive and desired outcomes and an openness and desire to go there.
Here I invite you to share how you are using the book to reach, teach, inspire and have fun in your world of work. If you have a favorite book or quote that you think links with the Cookie Thief books message ... then please share it too!

It surprises many people to learn that 90% of all the books I sell are not to kids but to corporations. This children's looking book "The Cookie Thief", like my other book, "The Dog Poop Initiative", is being used in many wonderful and creative ways in board rooms, class rooms and living rooms to invite and inspire new behaviors, good feelings, great discussions and new commitments.

Dr. Stephen Covey would call it a "paradigm shift" my friend Brad Barton would speak in terms of "perceptions and reality". I have some favorite books that explore the principle in greater depth listed in the back of the Cookie Thief Book. When you consider the principles illustrated by the book - what comes to your mind? Come on share your favorite behavioral and leadership recipe books with the rest of us...so we can help bake a better culture in our worlds of work.

Kirk,

I just got my copies of Poop and Cookies. Thanks again, they are awesome! I read both of them within minutes of getting them. I brought both of them to the office to set out on my desk so that co-workers and other passerby’s can pick em up, read em, and be inspired. Actually, as I type this email I already had someone stop by and pick up Dog Poop Initiative!!

Too many times in life I think we get stuck in “auto drive”. We get up, go to work, go home, watch whatever game or show is on, go to bed, start it all over the next day. (of course with the occasional meal or two in between). And just like a horse with blinders, we put these blinders on that confine us to just “our world”. And if we could only remove the blinders for even a second, we could see so much more of what life has to offer! Sometimes all it takes is a simple story to help us relate and realize our potential. Ahh the power of stories. That’s the way it’s been for 1000’s of years. If you think about it, even the scriptures themselves are basically prophets sharing a story of how certain lessons/principles affected others. So it’s always nice to read a good story with life lessons that help us put things in perspective and strive to “remove the blinders”.

Thanks again for the books and congrats on your success. Keep spreading the love!

The following pictures are from the same place but taken during different seasons:

There was an Apache Indian Chief who had four sons. He wanted his sons to learn not to judge things too quickly. So he sent them each on a quest, in turn, to go and look at a pear tree that was a great distance away.

The first son went in the winter, the second in the spring, the third in summer, and the youngest son in the fall.

When they had all gone and come back, he called them together to describe what they had seen.

The first son said that the tree was ugly, bent, and twisted.

The second son said "No it was covered with green buds and full of promise."

The third son disagreed; he said "it was laden with blossoms that smelled so sweet and looked so beautiful, it was the most graceful thing he had ever seen."

The last son disagreed with all of them; he said "it was ripe and drooping with fruit, full of life and fulfillment."

The man then explained to his sons that they were all right, because they had each seen but only one season in the tree's life.

He told them that you cannot judge a tree, or a person, by only one season, and that the essence of who they are and the pleasure, joy, and love that come from that life can only be measured at the end, when all the seasons are up.

If you give up when it's winter, you will miss the promise of your spring, the beauty of your summer, fulfillment of your Harvest time.

One possible Moral - Don't let the hardship and pain of one season destroy the joy of all the rest to come !
